Feature Request: Hands-Free Wake Word for ChatGPT Voice
I love using ChatGPT Voice and would like to request a more seamless, system-level voice activation experience similar to other voice assistants.
Requested Features
- Ability to activate ChatGPT with a wake phrase (e.g., “Hey ChatGPT”) without manually opening the app.
- Option to create a custom wake word, such as “Nova,” “Friday,” or any user-defined name.
- After activation, immediately begin listening for the user’s request in voice mode.
- Ability to answer questions, perform calculations, explain concepts, and search for information completely hands-free.
- Fast response time so it feels like a natural conversation while walking, cooking, studying, or working.
Optional Enhancements
- Allow users to choose between always-on wake word detection and manual activation to balance convenience and battery life.
- Support Bluetooth earbuds and headsets so users can interact with ChatGPT without touching their phone.
- Allow a follow-up conversation for a short time after each response without requiring the wake word again.
- Optional offline wake-word detection so only the wake phrase is processed locally, with ChatGPT connecting only after activation.
Why This Would Be Valuable
This would make ChatGPT feel less like an app that users have to open and more like a true AI companion that can be consulted anytime. It would be especially useful for students, professionals, and anyone who frequently has quick questions while doing other tasks.
