Hello all,
Would like to request a “Mid-Chat” question feature. similar to apple’s lookup
a lot of times the chat provides a really long answer and you don’t understand something in the middle. you then need to ask it for a clarification of a specific part/screenshot it or ask it in a new chat so the original chat wont be spammed.
a good approach would be a “nested” chat where you can highlight with the mouse a follow up question
thank you
I’m thinking you can do something like that in projects, You could open up a separate chat in the project that you re working on so that you can ask a question after copy and pasting that midsection of the reply and therefore it doesn’t disturb the chat that you re already using?
yeah but thats what i want to avoid among other things, using multiple chats
I asked AI about this idea and this was the response.
"Great idea! This could really improve the user experience, especially when dealing with long responses.
Your suggestion sounds like an in-line clarification feature, where users could highlight part of a response and trigger a small, “nested” chat window for follow-up questions. Here’s how it could work in practice:
Highlight & Ask – Users highlight a section of a response and a small pop-up appears saying, “Ask for clarification.”
Minimized Nested Reply – The AI responds within a collapsible mini-thread, keeping the main conversation clean.
Thread Reference – If needed, the user could expand the nested conversation later without losing context.
This would make learning more efficient by keeping follow-up questions attached to their original context, rather than forcing users to scroll back, screenshot, or disrupt the main chat.
Would also love to see how OpenAI might handle context persistence within these nested threads—should they expire after a certain number of exchanges, or remain accessible throughout the chat session?
Either way, this would be a great quality-of-life feature. Hope OpenAI considers implementing something like this!"
Hope this helps.
