Me too Samsung S22 Ultra. Surprised it cannot be fixed. Clear audio output is essential for the major benefit of assisting in language learning.
PROBLEM SOLVED FOR iPhone:
Settings>Accessibility>Touch>Call Audio Routing>set it on Speaker.
This way volume will improve better (see photos.

Same problem with Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
This does seem like something the OpenAI Product Manager should move on SOON to finally make this feature fully functional.
Same issue in Samsung S10.
when i turn off the bluetooth all start working
Hi disable bluetooth and the voice working
Samsung S23. Was working fine and then I setup Windows Link and the voice went quiet (coming from the phonecall speaker and not the main speaker). I actually asked GPT for a solution and it suggested turning on/off again
It worked. ! … Having said that tho. I suspect the bluetooth connection to my PC is what caused it. I suspect something just told it to route audio thru the comms speaker rather than the media speaker.
Galaxy Note 9, I turn off Bluetooth and Chat GPT audio is no longer just coming through the earpiece, it’s now coming through the loudspeaker - Great fix although annoying!
And guess what, it’s the exact same for the Unifi Protect Doorbell Pro G4, you see someone at the door, audio is perfect then you press the mic button on the app, the audio drops off the scale, it’s not coming in via the earpiece. Yup, you guessed it, turn off the Bluetooth (even though it’s not in use) and the audio is sorted. All points to the way Samsung (and perhaps a limited few) handle the audio routing with Bluetooth enabled (for some bonkers reason - frustrating)
SOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE: I found the solution yesterday. Disconnect bluetooth conexion at your mobile and the volume will get back to life. I guess the problem is due to interferences with smart watch. But anycase, do what I am suggesting: disconnect bluetooth to operate with chatgpt
This method works, thanks mate.
I noticed this problem on my galaxy flip 6 too while i never had issues before. After reading this topic i was able to solve the issue.
My solution was to disconnect the bluetooth connection with my Windows PC. Sound on ChatGPT was back to normal after that. The bluetooth connection to my smartwatch was still running though.
Hope this helps anyone figuring this out.
Turning off bluetooth is not a solution. Please stip acting like it is. This has been broken for over a year making it unusable in vehicle and dangerous. Randomly connects as audio device whe. Already connected as phone call. Should be easy to fix they just dont care.
Some upstart is going to beat them out in the AI race because they refuse to get audio sorted on Android. Pathetic…
Fix this! It’s super annoying, and means I will likely cancel my paid subscription.
Just here to add my voice to the masses.
Try to disable Bluetooth.
It is solution !!
Redmi Note 11S. Same problem. Disabling Bluetooth is NOT the solution for my case and many others on this thread.
I can confirm this on my Note 9. Bluetooth on - quiet ChatGPT voice. Bluetooth off - full volume ChatGPT voice. Thanks brody76
