I’d like to request an option to lock a chat title after manually renaming it.
I use custom chat names to keep long-running conversations organized and easy to find later. Sometimes ChatGPT appears to automatically rename chats as the conversation evolves, which can make manually organized threads harder to locate.
A simple solution could be:
-
If a user manually renames a chat, preserve that title unless they change it again.
-
Alternatively, add a small Lock Title option/icon that prevents automatic retitling for that conversation.
-
A global setting such as “Preserve manually renamed chat titles” could also work.
Automatic titles are useful for new chats, so I wouldn’t want to disable them entirely. I’d just like manually chosen titles to take precedence once I’ve organized a conversation myself.
This would be especially helpful for users who maintain long-running project, research, technical support, or reference chats and rely on consistent naming to find them later.
