I’ve been thinking about this a lot and I really think ChatGPT should have an optional location sharing feature.
Not just so you can ask “where am I?” either. I mean location becoming something ChatGPT can actually use with automations, connected apps and other features.
For example, imagine being able to say:
“Where’s my sister?” if she has chosen to share her location with me.
“When my sister leaves work, remind me to message her.”
“When I get home, turn my lights on.”
“When I arrive at work, give me a summary of my work emails.”
“When I get home, remind me what I need to do tonight.”
“When I get to the shops, show me my shopping list.”
“When I leave work, tell me what I’ve got on my calendar tonight.”
I know there would obviously need to be really strong privacy controls. Location sharing should always be opt-in, you should be able to choose exactly who can see it, what ChatGPT is allowed to use it for, and turn it off instantly.
But ChatGPT already has things like tasks, calendars, email, smart home integrations and apps. Location feels like the missing piece that could connect a lot of those features together.
It would make ChatGPT feel much less like something you have to constantly open and give instructions to, and much more like an assistant that understands what’s happening around you and can help at the right moment.
I’d genuinely use this every day.
