Live Character Mode — Talk to Your Favorite Characters in Real Time

Feature Request: Live Character Mode — Turn Voice Conversations Into Conversations With Characters

I have an idea that I think could take ChatGPT Voice to a completely different level.

1. Character Voice Mode :studio_microphone:

Imagine opening a voice conversation and being able to choose an officially licensed fictional character voice/persona.

For example, instead of simply choosing a male or female voice, I could say:

«“Use Adam from Stellar Blade.”»

Or:

«“Use Yuffie from Final Fantasy.”»

The goal wouldn’t be simple voice imitation. The character could also have an appropriate speaking style, personality, and conversational behavior, while clearly being presented as an AI character.

This could make conversations much more engaging and personal.

2. This Could Be Amazing for Language Learning

This is one of the biggest practical uses I can see.

For example, I could tell the AI:

«“Talk to me in English as this character. Let me speak freely, and correct my mistakes naturally without interrupting me constantly.”»

I could then have a real conversation instead of studying from a textbook.

If I make a mistake:

«“Yesterday I go to the store.”»

The character could naturally respond:

«“Oh, you went to the store yesterday? What did you buy?”»

Then briefly explain:

«“By the way, say ‘I went,’ not ‘I go,’ because you’re talking about the past.”»

Then continue the conversation normally.

That would make practicing English feel much more like talking to a real person.

3. The Future: Live Character Video :movie_camera:

Once the technology becomes capable enough, this could evolve beyond audio.

Imagine the selected character actually appearing on screen during the conversation.

Not just a static avatar, but a real-time animated character who:

- Looks toward the camera while speaking

- Moves naturally

- Uses facial expressions

- Moves their head and hands

- Reacts to what the user says

- Changes expressions depending on the conversation

- Can follow simple scene instructions

For example:

«“Stand in front of the camera.”»

The character could appear standing rather than sitting.

Or:

«“Come closer.”»

The character could move closer to the virtual camera.

The goal would be to make it feel like the user is actually having a live conversation with a character rather than talking to an AI interface.

4. Why I Think This Could Be Huge

ChatGPT is already becoming a conversational product. Adding character-based voices and eventually real-time animated characters could create an entirely new form of interaction.

It could be useful for:

- Language learning

- Entertainment

- Role-playing

- Storytelling

- Gaming

- Education

- Social interaction

- Practicing conversations and interviews

- Simply talking to characters people love

And it doesn’t have to start with video.

Voice first → personality and character behavior → real-time animated character.

I think even the first step, allowing users to have natural voice conversations with officially licensed characters or approved character personas, would be incredibly compelling.

If done with the appropriate licensing, permissions, and safeguards, this could turn Voice Mode into something people don’t just use as an AI assistant — they use it because they genuinely want to spend time talking to their favorite characters.

I would absolutely use this feature. :fire:
