It seems a little icon with negative space that reads clearly at small size allows too many interpretations - or just one. 
Here’s one that matches the intent.
Then we can do round 2, iterating with less guidance.
You don’t want these alien intelligences injecting your ship with their ammonia atmosphere and then suckling your knowledge out your ear with their brain probe tendrils…
I liked the color scheme and style of you

Noticed that the effect of asking for watercolor and ink using your image as a reference on the output style was rather tasteful.
Had to edit once tho… still not quite print worthy though.

On close examination, my icon might be a hexapus, because hexapod is already taken.

I don’t know about the rest of the folks here, but I always assumed the last two appendages were behind your visible part of your icon ^.^
This is shocking! I was really thinking that we had an actual octopus here
But then again…it didn’t quite match, since octopus intelligence matches a 3 year old human’s and yours definitely is above 3 year olds (3 year olds are so smart in lot of things and in my opinion they should many times rule the world).
