Yes, Retrofuturism is an art movement from early visions of how the future would look like. Something like your Vacuum Cleaner 8000 with Light Bulbs idea from where the Light Bulb was invented. That’s how they saw the future. Far fetched example, hope explains it a bit.
So, depending on the technology you want to see the future as, just got to request the era or type of it.
What I kinda don’t get Future Retro, you are choosing a future tech for an even more advanced future?
More like the far future looking back at the future? Haha it’s confusing.

And yes, I’d heard of retro futurism before. I’m just bad at words, I think! 
on my back burner, I’m thinking we’re going to push the model to Logan’s Run type retro future…
That’s one of those, prompts - have to be specific about the style intimately and try naming it…
That sort of combination will stick to your access point/key, I think if you name the style combination that you find you like
But otherwise, your second image, Paul, is what the model’s going to think is penultimate within its art training.

I need to create an image that uses only symbols, no words, to illustrate the difference between retrofuturism and future retroism. A split image or diptych seems like the way to go. I’ll make sure the left side reflects past visions of the future, and the right side shows a future looking back at the past.
close but i think it’s weirding out on the concept of far future (2999) looking back at future (2500) which hasn’t happened yet, so it did super-retro? or fell back on what it knew…
Maybe something like Vintage Cyberpunk? Tried looking up Future Retroism and come back to Retrofuturism. Could also be Solarpunk.
