Issue with ChatGPT Voice on iMac with AirPods

I’m experiencing a strange issue when using ChatGPT’s voice feature on my iMac. When my AirPods are connected, the voice sounds like it’s talking in slow motion—deep and very slow.

• If I switch back to my iMac’s regular speakers, the voice works fine.

• My AirPods work perfectly for music and other apps on the same iMac, so this seems to be specific to ChatGPT.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I pay for the voice feature, so it’s pretty frustrating. Any suggestions or fixes would be appreciated!

Same issue here on a MacBook Pro using AirPods Pro 2.

Same here don’t know why also using AirPods Pro 2

This is due to a different bitrate being used for the headphones and speakers.

Not a mac users myself, but I have seen this effect, when playback changes between 44Khz and 22Khz, usually down to a codec issue. I you are able to change your sound settings bit rate for the headphones, you may be able to correct it.

However, as it’s a ChatGPT issue and not an API problem, please visit help.openai.com and use the support bot in the bottom right corner to alert ChatGPT support to the issue.

Thanks!

I had no idea it was because of my AirPods. I was over here using the iOS app just to get the voice messages done but yes it’s been an issue for a few weeks now and it is so annoying. I really wish they could get around to fixing it instead of launching a 24/7 ChatGPT phone line

And this is with AirPod max’s but I’m convinced it’s just the desktop version that has this problem so nothing wrong with my headphones

same issue with my airpods 4 on macbook air . if i switch to another headset, or use desktop mac with same airpods 4 , i have no issue. dont know why it happens.

I have the same issue when I am using my AirPods on my MacBook Pro 2021. The audio aloud feature in Microsoft edge browser works fine. So, it’s something to do with the voice in Chat GPT. I can hear the example voice sounds fine but when it speaks in advanced voice the audio is slow regardless of the voice that I chose. I am also not able to find any settings that fix this issue. Telling chatgpt to speak faster does not solve the problem. Switch to some audio output/input other than my AirPods is a temporary work around. Youtube audio works fine with the AirPods. Hopefully OpenAI will fix this issue soon. The AirPods work with chatgpt on my iPhone and my other Mac. This Mac has been newly setup so I don’t know why it’s an issue with just this device. I deleted the AirPods from the Mac and reconnected them but the problem was not solved. I logged out and back in and it didn’t help. I deleted the app and reinstalled it. Didn’t help. I can’t find any settings to adjust. Hopefully open ai can fix it with a new app update or provide instructions on how to solve the problem.

I’m having a similar issue as others have mentioned with the ChatGPT app on Mac (M1 Max) with AirPods Pro 2.

Advanced Voice mode sounds like it’s playing at like half speed or something like that as the speech is slow and the voice sounds low as a result of that. Switching the audio output to my Studio Display or other speakers results in the audio being perfectly clear and playing back at the normal rate. Switching back to the headphones does not resolve the issue.

I haven’t quite figured out what the pattern is, but I’ve sometimes been able to resume an Advanced Voice Mode session and the audio is fine.

Similar to Trey, the audio is fine when accessing Advanced Voice through ChatGPT.com in a web browser with the Air Pods Pro 2… and I haven’t experienced this kind of issue with any other apps.

An interesting insight… though not a particularly functional workaround… if I tap the Mute icon within the Advanced Voice interface, the audio playback switches back to normal after a few seconds.

So if I ask a question and then immediately hit the mute icon, the first second or so of the response might be the garbled slow sound, then a brief moment of silence as it cuts over, then the audio goes back to normal.

Of course, unmuting has the reverse effect where the audio goes back to garbled slow playback.

I use a 2020 Macbook Air and Air Pods Pro 2. I have the same robotic sound problem. This needs to be solved urgently.

This has been such a pain :smiling_face_with_tear: . MacBook Pro (M1) with Apple AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) . Easily reproducible.
