Issue with ChatGPT Conversations – Slow Loading & Lost Uploaded Files

Dear OpenAI Team,

I would like to report an issue with the ChatGPT web interface that affects the user experience and could be improved with a few optimizations.

Problem Description:

  1. Slow Conversation Switching & Freezing
  • When switching to an older conversation, the system reprocesses the entire chat from the beginning.
  • This significantly increases loading time and can freeze the browser, especially for long discussions.
  1. Loss of Uploaded Files
  • If a file was uploaded during a conversation, it gets lost when switching to another thread or changing models.
  • When returning to the same conversation, the system still references the missing file, leading to errors.

Suggested Improvements:

:white_check_mark: Local caching of conversations → Store and retrieve conversations without reprocessing them from scratch.
:white_check_mark: Automatic reloading of uploaded files → Ensure that previously uploaded files remain accessible when switching between conversations.
:white_check_mark: Resume from the last state instead of reprocessing everything → This would improve performance and reduce unnecessary server load.

Expected Benefits:

:heavy_check_mark: Faster response times → No need to reload entire conversations repeatedly.
:heavy_check_mark: Better user experience → No loss of files or important context.
:heavy_check_mark: Less server load for OpenAI → More efficient processing and caching.

Since this issue affects multiple users, implementing these optimizations would significantly improve the ChatGPT experience.

Thank you for considering this request. I appreciate your continuous efforts in improving the platform.

Best regards,
