On the macOS app, when entering Japanese text using the standard method of typing on a Latin keyboard and converting it into Japanese script:

  • The “Message ChatGPT” placeholder does not disappear immediately when text is input (this happens consistently).
  • The app occasionally crashes immediately after input (this happens sporadically).

Notably, this issue does not occur when typing only in Latin letters.

Same issue here!
This also happens when I input into the mini-window (opt+space) as well

The same here. The characters typed overlap with the placeholder text, making it unreadable.

I believe it affects other languages that require an input method, such as Chinese.

Same here! SO frustrating :frowning:

I’m using a third-party IME (Kawasemi), so it doesn’t seem to be an Apple IME issue.

Is there any updates?

The same issue has been pointed out in the thread ChatGPT Macアプリの日本語入力の問題について.

Unfortunately, it seems that the OpenAI support team has no intention of dealing with issues in non-Western environments. Not surprised.

I experience the same problem, but only when PowerPoint is open. Does this happen to anyone else?

I am experiencing the same issue.

When typing in Japanese, the text disappears before confirmation, which leads to accidental submission by pressing Enter.
Since this issue has not been resolved, I am currently typing prompts in VSCode and then copying and pasting them into the ChatGPT.app input field.
This occurs without any specific conditions. It does not depend on whether a particular app is being used.

I use the default Japanese input method provided by Apple.

Disabling the “Automatically combine chat bar apps” setting reduced the frequency of the issue.
However, when entering text while the ChatGPT app is generating a response, the same problem still occurs.
I suspect that when a conversion is in progress with the Japanese input method, and the ChatGPT app executes an internal update process, the unconfirmed input gets discarded.

I hope this is fixed as soon as possible.
