Suggestion: Pinning Chats for Easy Navigation

Hey OpenAI team,
I love using ChatGPT for various topics, especially academics, and I thought a cool feature would be the option to pin specific chats. This way, I could easily reference subjects I discuss frequently, like different academic topics, without scrolling through old conversations. It’d make navigating through chats way faster and more organized.

Hey, I completely agree. Pinning chats would be a huge improvement for navigating past conversations. I’d actually love to take this a step further – with an AI-powered chat organization system that not only lets us pin important chats but also:

  • Automatically sorts chats into topic-based folders (e.g., “Work Emails,” “Online Profiles,” “AI Automation,” “Prompts”).

  • Uses AI to analyze chat content and group them based on keywords and themes.

  • Lets users rename, move, or delete chats within folders as needed.

  • Adds a search & filter system for even faster retrieval.

  • (Bonus) AI-generated chat summaries, so you can quickly scan what each chat is about.

How It Could Work

  1. AI scans chat content and categorizes conversations into relevant topics.
  2. The system auto-generates folders based on common themes.
  3. Chats are automatically sorted, but users can override and organize them manually.
  4. A search bar and filtering system makes it even easier to find past discussions.

Example Folder Categories:

  • Work Emails – Drafts, email templates, professional communication.
  • Online Profiles – LinkedIn bios, social media profiles, personal branding.
  • AI Automation – Scripting, productivity tools, workflow automation.
