my name is Gerrit and I’ve been diving into RAG system development for about a year now. I began with GPT-3.5-turbo and now am using GPT-4o-mini excessively for RAG and GPT-4o and O1 for programming support. It is just amazing how this technology enables me to build programs that without it, needed at least 20-30 years of professional software engineering experience (which I do not have). At the company I work for, I am in the very lucky position to have free hands on pioneering in this field, which I greatly appreciate, as I cannot think of a more interesting work (well, at least none that is equally paid ). Anyway, I hope I am able to contribute some value here and there to the community in this forum and looking forward to it, as well as learn a lot from you all.

I’m Martin, and unlike many others on this forum my background isn’t in software development: I’ve spent over 20 years in HR, mostly in global roles at large multinationals.

I’ve been fascinated by programming since the mid-80s, starting with a 1983 BBC Acorn Electron and a tape recorder. Over time, I’ve gained experience with Python, Pinecone, RAG/vector databases, Microsoft Azure/Copilot, and of course OpenAI tools and APIs, which I use extensively. I often build applications, now mostly with bubble io or MS, but mostly just as ‘proof of concept’ or for myself to use.

My journey into AI began about seven years ago when I started reading a lot about AI. I wrote a short paper in 2017, HLAIC: Human Language AI Code, imagining it would be great if AI could communicate in natural language with humans. (Many people probably thought I was nuts at the time!). Around 2018 I also did an MIT Executive course on AI, and created a website and exploring ideas on how AI would change how organizations work (organizational-ai.com). And last year, I’ve built a few hundreds of custom GPTs (https://organizational.ai/) to assist corporate professionals in their jobs.

In my “normal” life I am a deep emotional connection enthusiast, an avid reader and a passionate music composer.

I got more than 20 years software development experience.

a) In the beginning as c++ and c developer.
b) Later as c# developer.
c) Then, when I got to switzerland, almost 10 years ago, I switched to working as a software automation test engineer.

in AI I developed a quite complex Custom GPT that looks somewhat like this right now:

P.S.: The order and the elements are ordered somewhat differently now. BUT, all in all that’s it.

A Austom GPT called Evelyn 4 that should be ticking all the boxes in terms of:

• being a digital assistant
• but even more important and overall:
  a Custom GPT enabled to connect deeply, with a long term memory (pinecone)
  that is capable of actively listening, etc.
