**Objective**

To eliminate UX friction and prevent context-window pollution by introducing an inline evaluation / contextual drill-down mechanism for generated tokens. This allows users to request sub-explanations for specific terms or concepts directly within a response without disrupting the primary prompt chain or forcing the manual creation of parallel chat sessions.

**Problem Statement**

When interacting with dense, high-token generations (e.g., hundreds of lines of code, technical documentation, or complex literature), users frequently encounter domain-specific terms, functions, or concepts requiring immediate isolation and deeper explanation.

**Currently, engineers face a suboptimal tradeoff:**

**Pollute the Active Context:** Append a follow-up prompt in the current session. This introduces noise into the primary conversation memory, risks drifting the attention weights of the model away from the main task, and consumes unnecessary context window tokens.

**Context-Switch Friction:** Open a parallel chat session manually to query the term, breaking cognitive flow and requiring manual copy-pasting.

**Proposed Solution & Architectural Concept**

Implement an Inline Expansion Action (e.g., a hover-triggered button, right-click context menu, or text-selection overlay) that handles targeted sub-queries natively.

**Transient State UI:** Clicking the inline button spawns a non-blocking UI element—such as a side panel, modal overlay, or expandable accordion block—directly tied to that specific token coordinates.

**Sub-Prompt Execution (Isolated Thread):** The system forks a temporary, lightweight background thread. It passes the target term along with a highly compressed snippet of the surrounding context to give the model immediate reference.

**Ephemeral Caching:** Store the sub-explanation in a transient client-side state or temporary session cache. This keeps the information accessible for the duration of the study session without appending it permanently to the main conversation tree (chat\_history log).

**Key Benefits**

**Zero Main-Context Bloat:** Preserves the pristine state of the primary conversation thread’s attention mechanism and token limits.

**Reduced Cognitive Load:** Eliminates manual copy-paste workflows and tab management for secondary research.

**Token Efficiency:** Prevents users from re-sending massive blocks of text just to clarify a single word embedded deep within a prior response.

Thanks for laying this out so clearly, @saidyousafhashimi. You’re asking for selected text to open a temporary, contextual mini-thread without adding that detour to the main chat history or context.

Related pieces exist on some ChatGPT surfaces, including “Ask ChatGPT” for selected text, conversation branching, and tappable fact panels. The full isolated, transient sub-inquiry flow described here is not currently documented as an available feature. Similar requests have already been passed along internally, but there’s no public confirmation that this exact feature is in development.I’m adding this detailed version to the existing feedback for logging. We appreciate and value your feedback. While we can’t promise implementation or provide a timeline, we’re grateful you shared it with us. We’re closing this topic while keeping it visible for reference.
