Lately I’ve been experiencing an unbelievable amount of frustration working with the OpenAI API and ChatGPT. I’ve been developing with these tools for a while now, and over time, what started as excitement has turned into complete exhaustion. Every time I think I’ve figured out how to get consistent, logical behavior from the model, it suddenly starts doing the exact opposite. It ignores parameters, misinterprets instructions, hallucinates code, and generally acts like it’s determined to push me over the edge.
What’s been bothering me most is that this frustration is actually affecting how I interact with it. I’ve caught myself snapping at ChatGPT like it’s a human coworker who refuses to listen. I’ll spend hours testing different prompt structures, managing token limits, and debugging requests, and when I get another irrelevant or nonsensical output, I feel my patience just collapse. There have been moments where I’ve rage-quit my entire development environment just to walk away before I throw something.
