Dear OpenAI Team,
First, I want to thank you for creating such an incredible tool with ChatGPT. It’s clear how much potential AI has to transform the way we work and communicate. As someone who is deeply interested in how AI can support neurodivergent individuals, I wanted to share some thoughts and ideas.
One of the most challenging aspects of managing conversations with ChatGPT is the absence of a traditional memory system. When trying to revisit or build on older ideas or thoughts, it can be difficult to re-establish context. Without the ability to link conversations or retain prior discussions, users like me often need to search through past interactions to find the original conversation where an idea was first explored.
For neurodivergent users, this process can be especially taxing. Unlike neurotypical individuals, who might compartmentalize conversations into distinct topics, my discussions often resemble a stream of consciousness—a memory dump placed in the first available location. I tend to shift topics quite liberally, so a single conversation may span multiple concepts and projects. While this fluidity reflects how my mind works, it makes it harder to locate and build on specific ideas later without substantial effort.
Why This Matters:
- Reduces Cognitive Load: For neurodivergent individuals (and anyone managing complex projects), AI could act as an external brain, keeping track of thoughts and ideas without requiring constant manual effort.
- Improves Accessibility: Features like tagging or conversation linking would make ChatGPT far more user-friendly, especially for people who struggle with organization or memory recall.
- Enhances Productivity: Instead of focusing on re-establishing context, users could focus on advancing ideas, brainstorming, or problem-solving.
Feature Request:
I’d love to see ChatGPT include:
- A system for organizing conversations by tags or topics, allowing users to categorize and revisit threads easily.
- A “context recall” function that lets users reconnect prior context without re-entering all the details of a previous conversation.
- Suggestions for linking new conversations to related past ones, based on keywords or user feedback.
These features would make ChatGPT an even more powerful tool for neurodivergent individuals or anyone juggling multiple threads of thought.
Thank you for considering this feedback! I truly believe that enhancements like these would help AI fulfill its incredible potential to support users of all kinds.
