[I’m just returning here, 2 months and 57 views of this post later, to say that it is simply unbelievable to me that in that time, no one has made the slightest comment here. Not “I don’t think they reveal the limits”, not “oh, it’s dependent on usage”, not “shucks, ain’t it a shame”. Not even “here’s where you should direct this”. Crickets. I know the growth of users creates unimaginable growth pains here, I know it’s essentially a monopoly situation, I know I can take it or leave it - but this is a service that I paid for, as offered, with only the sketchiest description, and to think there is no viable customer support, no disclosures of basic expectations for the purchase, and no recourse, seems like it might be or ought to be illegal. You would think that the fees for paid accounts would more than cover renting a call center in the Philippines, except for the intended obfuscation. Are you all complicit in turning a blind eye (and silent mouth) to this? Is it some giggling inside joke, or fear of reprisal consequences from moderators for any who address any of this? I’m just gobsmacked. I don’t know if this edit will bump the post back into play, or if it will just sink into the weeds, but I would still welcome any forthright response, of any kind at all, to the quite natural, obvious, and legitimate questions I naively posed here, if anyone knows anything, or has good reason to surmise in a more informed way. [Come on folks, 20 people have viewed this post before my adding this - doesn’t anyone have anything helpful to add? I’m just trying to get the basic info below, or any way to get through to a human agent on a paid account. I’m going crazy spending time trying to find any way to open a support case, or open chat/email contact with any human attended support for my paid plus account.
I was in a conversation with ChatGPT that required uploading files. Apparently I reached an upload limit, I thought for the day, and I didn’t want to wait, so I bought a plus account, assuming this would extend my limits. Instead, my document upload is now completely disabled. I’m using 4o mini now, but I can’t switch out of that in this chat, all other options are greyed out. I notice that if I start a new chat, I have all options, including the legacy, and the document upload is available under all models. I notice now all my old chats are in 4o mini too (I don’t know if they were composed in that) - document upload is still available only in the newest few, and greyed out in all older ones (from before the one in question - from before the upgrade). Is this some kind of a non-negotiable limit per chat, or based on time passed, or Chat model used? (I only uploaded 1 docx and 2 pdf’s, all from Google Drive, and all under 1mb in size and under 5000 words - not huge docs.) I don’t even know what additional caps I’m allowed in the plus limits, and what other features I’m paying for - the feature and limit descriptions of the plans seem intentionally vague and obfuscating.
Here’s my questions:
- What are the limits? (For Free and for Plus [are they even different?], for document uploads, document lengths and sizes, chat lengths, number of chats, any other relevant limits.)
- Are limits per chat, per month, per account, or what?
- Is the chat I was working on locked down to new uploads permanently? Is this because I started it before upgrading? Is there anything to do about that? What limit or cap did I hit with only 3 small docs from G Drive?
- I had wanted to return to this same chat periodically for continuity, and continue with new uploads. Is there any way to do a chat like this in the future, and how to set it up for that? (Upload availability retained over time, added to in weekly or bi-weekly increments, usually by two or three small docs like those.)
- Do limits vary with subscription, with model, with time passed, with global usage traffic at the time, or what?
- Did my upgrade to plus affect my limits in any way? If so, exactly how? Could upgrading have negatively affected my upload limits, in current or past chats?
- Finally, if not here, where can I get these questions answered by a human?
I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want to know what to expect in these parameters in a paid product. I don’t begrudge them the payments, I do use it a lot and value it - even if part of the answer is that there is inconsistency or traffic dependencies. I just want to know what I can expect, and make sure what I’m buying is really something that adds value for me, or if I should just consider payments mainly a donation, given my usage needs.
