That definitely doesn't sound right. To help narrow down what's happening, could you share a screenshot of the page you're stuck on?
Also, are you using ChatGPT on the mobile app or in a web browser, and what device are you using?
In the meantime, it may be worth trying to fully close and reopen the app (or refresh the browser page) and see if the screen clears.
