ChatGPT Mac app keeps showing “Something seems to have gone wrong” after a few lines, across multiple Macs and networks since Sunday
Issue
Since Sunday, the app has repeatedly been failing during normal conversations.
A reply starts generating normally, but after only a few lines it suddenly stops and shows the orange error message:
“Hmm… something seems to have gone wrong.”
This keeps happening again and again.
What is strange
If I fully close the app and open it again, the complete answer is often already there in the conversation.
So the response itself seems to have been generated successfully, but the Mac app appears to fail while displaying or streaming it.
Scope of the problem
- Started since Sunday
- Happens on multiple Macs

- So this does not appear to be tied to one machine or one local connection
Behavior
- Reply starts normally
- After a few lines, the app shows “Something seems to have gone wrong”
- I close the app
- I reopen the app
- The full answer is there anyway
- This repeats over and over
Why this looks like an app/UI bug
Because the answer is often already present after reopening, this does not look like the model failed to generate the response. It looks more like the Mac app breaks during rendering, streaming, or updating the conversation view.
Steps to reproduce
- Open the ChatGPT Mac app
- Start a normal conversation
- Ask for a reply that is more than just a few lines
- Let the answer generate
- After a few lines, the orange error banner appears
- Close the app completely
- Reopen the app
- The full answer is often already visible in the chat
Expected result
The answer should continue rendering normally without interruption.
Actual result
The app stops mid-response and shows “Something seems to have gone wrong,” even though the full answer often already exists when reopening the app.

Impact
This makes the Mac app unreliable and frustrating to use, because longer replies are constantly interrupted even when the response itself appears to have completed successfully in the background.
