Help.openai WILL NOT HELP: Unauthorized $189 Charge for ChatGPT Pro

I need urgent help regarding an unauthorized charge. I’ve been subscribed to ChatGPT Plus for several months, but I was recently charged $189 for ChatGPT Pro without my authorization or knowledge.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

I reached out to support through the chat widget, but I’ve been waiting for over 17 hours with no response.

I have emailed openai support and had no response.

I’ve reviewed my account settings, but I didn’t make any changes or upgrades to my plan.

I’m very frustrated and need assistance resolving this as quickly as possible.

If anyone from OpenAI support is monitoring this forum, please help escalate my issue.

Hi, Micah - the exact same thing happened to me, I was signed up for the Plus plan and was upgraded to Pro WITHOUT my consent, and charge $182.99. I have taken similar steps, but there must have been some kind of bug.

Hi all. Same here. I was charged $195.85 on the 16th of December for ChatGPT Pro in which I did not consent to and authorized them to.

Lodged a ticket on the same day but have not heard anything back from Support which is very concerning.

To the Support team, if you’re reading this, please let me know what’s the update for my case. The amount you falsely charged is not of a small value!

Same exact issue here - just got charged $192.28 for PRO, when I had a Plus subscription that I in fact CANCELLED on 12/28/2024! I never, ever, authorized or subscribed to PRO!

This is obviously a major bug, and needs to be fixed immediately, with refunds going out immediately.

This needs to happen before it has to be pushed out to the media. I am more than a little annoyed!

Just happened to me today. 18th January 2025. It’s just taken my shopping money and left me with nothing. I am less than impressed I would like compensation not just a refund. £185 for something I never signed up to!

Hi everyone, Hannah from the OpenAI support team here. I’m really sorry to hear about these charges, I know this must have been disruptive.

First things first, if you have a charge on your credit card or bank account that you don’t recognise, the best thing to do would be to get in touch with your bank and query it. They will be able to look into the charge and whether it was authorised, and arrange for you to get your money back if the charge was fraudulent.

Secondly, if you’re seeing any type of activity on your OpenAI account that you don’t recognise, it would be best to log out of all sessions (under Settings > Security in your account) and change your password.

This happened to me today. Upgraded me to pro and charged me 200. This is not something i accidentally did or someone else did. This is obviously an issue your side and we are not the ones who need to correct this. I had to cancel my debit card and call the fraud department to get my money back. If thats how you deal with an issue on your side, fraudulently upgrading and charging people when they didnt authorize it and then telling them its their problem, i dont want anything to do with your company and I will be sending this to the better business bureau.

This is an issue with ChatGPT. There were too many users around the same time this happened. When I went under “plan” on my GPT account, PRO was even selected as my plan, which I did not do. I did not even log into ChatGPT on the day that this happened. Banks do not reverse charges on debit card transactions. Do the right thing and refund your customers their money promptly. The least you could do is respond to your customer’s chat messages and emails and let us know what is going on seeing that you stole from us.

I just had the same issue as you. I have been upgraded automatically from chatGPT plus to ChatGPT pro and I did nothing. So I cancelled the pro subscription but I have been charged 200$ USD.
I wrote to openAI support so they cancel my subscription to PRO
If the sont’t answer me I am going to make the bill cancelled by the credit cart and never make business with OPENAI again and use another platform.

So they need to answer my request ASAP.

It just happened to me now on Feb 9, 2025. Two days after the ChatGPT Plus renewal charge I got charged again for ChatGPT Pro (200USD).

I am trying to request a refund via support chat but it keeps waiting without any response.

What a disappointment…

Yes, Tiago. Many hours after leaving a message on their chat they refunded me and I cancelled my subscription forever.

This has just happened to me, I am currently subscribed to plus and I get an email saying thank you for upgrading to pro.

Currently waiting for a reply from the chat bot now.

Update They have refunded me.
