I am at the very beginning and have limited technical knowledge. I only have a smartphone and normal internet access, and I would like to start without paying for hosting, subscriptions, or other technical infrastructure.
At this stage, I am not looking to disclose the full concept publicly. I only need practical guidance on how to choose free tools, create a very simple prototype, and test the basic idea safely from a smartphone.
What would you recommend as the simplest first technical steps?
I think your first technical step should actually be very small — and almost non-technical.
Don’t try to build the whole project yet. Define one thing a user should be able to do, and one result they should get back.
If you can describe that interaction clearly, you already have enough to start prototyping.
With only a smartphone, I would probably use AI as a kind of temporary development environment:
Describe the single interaction you want to test.
Ask the model to help reduce it to the smallest possible prototype.
Start with plain HTML/CSS/JavaScript whenever possible — ideally even a single HTML file. No database, framework, account system, or server unless the idea genuinely needs one.
Use a browser-based editor to run it from the phone.
Only after the interaction works, think about free hosting or adding infrastructure.
The important part is to test the idea, not to reproduce the final product.
I would also avoid putting passwords, API keys, personal data, or anything sensitive into an early prototype. Fake content is fine for testing an interface; fake functionality is dangerous because it can make you believe you validated something that never actually worked.
And I would not worry too much about having limited technical knowledge at the beginning. This is actually one of the things I find interesting about the current generation of accessible models: they can let someone learn the technical concepts while building something small, instead of requiring months of preparation before the first experiment.
If you can say what kind of interaction you need — without revealing the private concept itself — people here could probably help you reduce it to a very small first prototype.
