Grant API Token Allowance to ChatGPT Plus Subscribers

Hello OpenAI Product Team,

I’m a ChatGPT Plus subscriber and also use GitHub Copilot Pro via the Student Pack. I frequently hit rate limits when prototyping in Copilot or running “Agentic mode” workflows—and I’d love to be able to experiment programmatically without maintaining a separate API billing account.

Current Situation

  • ChatGPT Plus UI chat.openai.com is covered by my $20/month subscription.
  • GitHub Copilot Pro uses its own quota and enforces separate rate limits.
  • OpenAI API requires a distinct API key and pay-as-you-go credits.

Proposal

  1. Monthly Shared Credit Pool

    • Allocate a modest monthly token allowance (e.g. $10–$20 worth) that’s shared between:
      • the ChatGPT web UI
      • API clients (e.g. Copilot, Agentic)
    • Enforce a single usage cap so all consumption—regardless of client—draws from the same pool.
  2. Usage Controls

    • Let users configure a hard spending limit on that shared pool in their dashboard.
    • Allow optional top-ups at standard API rates once the monthly credit is exhausted.
  3. Seamless Onboarding

    • Automatically generate and display an API key in the Plus dashboard, pre-funded with the monthly allowance.

I would be extremely grateful for this enhancement. It would let me—and many other Plus users—perform light programmatic experiments (e.g. Agentic mode) without juggling multiple billing buckets or worrying about separate API quotas.

Thank you for considering this feature request!

Best regards,
Mert Cakir
