I think its definitely a soft mask, as in the images openai has put in the guide here (https://platform.openai.com/docs/guides/image-generation?image-generation-model=gpt-image-1&lang=javascript#edit-an-image-using-a-mask-inpainting) you can clearly see the output is fully rerendered (Look at the windows, the trees look very different.). It would be nice to have an explanation from openai about this, as we have wasted so much time trying fix something thats obviously not fixable.
