Title: GPT Connect — Connecting ChatGPT Users Through Shared Interests

Proposal

I would like to suggest an optional feature for ChatGPT called GPT Connect.

Millions of people around the world talk to ChatGPT about their interests, studies, hobbies, games, sports and problems. Many of these users may have similar interests but have no way of discovering or communicating with each other through ChatGPT.

GPT Connect could allow users who choose to participate to find other users or communities based on shared interests.

For example, a user could ask:

“Find me a group of people my age who are interested in volleyball, football games and science.”

Instead of searching through thousands of profiles, ChatGPT could understand the request and recommend an appropriate moderated community or compatible users.

The important difference from an ordinary social network would be that AI acts as the connection layer. ChatGPT could help match interests, introduce people, suggest conversation starters, translate between languages and moderate conversations.

Safety should be central to the feature, particularly for younger users. Participation should be opt-in, personal information should remain private by default, and minors should only be able to interact within appropriately age-restricted environments. Blocking, reporting, anti-scam protections and moderation would be essential.

The idea can be represented simply as:

Current ChatGPT:
Person → ChatGPT

GPT Connect:
Person → ChatGPT → Person / Community

This could transform ChatGPT from only a place where people communicate with AI into a place where AI also helps people safely discover other people around the world who share their interests.

One-line pitch:
GPT Connect is an opt-in social layer for ChatGPT that uses AI to safely connect people with compatible interests and communities around the world.
