same for me , it doesnt work on my new pc, app or the PC browser , but no issue on my old one and iphone , ipad . that’s weird I tried everything but impossible to understand . chat gpt is lagging , and sometimes some rollback , very slow , error code etc . im running windows with ryzen 9800x3d and rtx 5090. hardware issue?
I have just subscribed and started to receive this error, I do not believe it is a RAM issue as the app is currently only consuming 390MB and I have 32 GB available.
Also having this issue i dont understnad why its happneing maybe closing projects? it helps to open a new chat but all the previous info can get lost
I get this error all the time. Is it the app?
I always start getting this error in every answer as soon as the conversation starts to get ‘heavy’. Lots of screenshots loaded, documents, and a long conversation make the conversation return lots of errors, sometimes in every reply.
I use the Windows client.
This error happens frequently to me as well, I always assumed it was because my internet connection is flaky. I use the Windows app, and it usually happens after I’ve had some kind of problem on the PC, suddenly ChatGPT flakes out for a minute then things are fine again. By problem I mean an app crashes, then ChatGPT throws the error. Graphics driver “recovers”, GhatGPT throws this error. Internet connection burps, ChatGPT throws this error. It’s 99.9% of the time temporary, I have only ever had to hit “retry” a few times out of the more than half a year of using the app. But this error always comes after some other issue on the PC.
This issue has been bothering me for the past three days. Could you please let me know where I can report it? I assume posting it here won’t resolve it. Thank you in advance.
Hi there!
You can make use of help.openai.com and the support system via the icon in the bottom right corner to connect with the ChatGPT support team. Alternatively, email support@openai.com or you can try OpenAI 's Discord.
I’ve been encountering this issue 20+ times a day, and it’s seriously affecting my workflow. I have 128 GB of RAM, so system memory isn’t the problem.
Here’s what’s happening: whenever I get a Node Error or the GPT desktop app freezes mid-response, I’ve found a strange workaround — if I end the GPT process through Task Manager and reopen it immediately, my full response suddenly appears as if it had finished processing in the background.
This happens constantly. In fact, more often than the Node Errors themselves, the Windows app just hangs indefinitely after I ask a question. The only fix? Again — kill the process, reopen it, and the full answer appears instantly.
Even when GPT is technically working but responding very slowly, the same trick applies: kill the app, reopen it, and there’s the full message waiting.
As a developer and heavy GPT user, having to restart the app dozens of times a day is beyond frustrating. It’s become a major workflow disruption and, honestly, unacceptable for a paid product. I rarely post on forums, but this has reached the point where I need to say something.
Please, OpenAI, fix this issue. I love using GPT — but having to manually kill and relaunch the app constantly makes your competitors look more and more appealing every day.
I am receiving this error much more after the last deploy earlier this week.
Same here. In the past, chats with a longer history tended to be more effective. However, this has also happened in relatively new chats recently. It’s really annoying, especially when you’re running complex prompts and don’t have a copy of them. They just disappear. And yes, sometimes they appear again, but it’s not reliable.
I usually fix this in a kind of strange way here in Brazil. When GPT freezes, I take a screenshot of any random part of the screen, as if I were photographing something, and paste it into the chat. I don’t send it — I just paste it. Sometimes I type something meaningless along with it, just to force the system to process. Then I delete the screenshot and continue normally. When it’s completely frozen, I just close everything, come back later, and retrieve the conversation from the history or from my project if I had already started it there. …
Experienced this so often in windows app. For me, I just wait for few seconds and somehow it fixed by itself. Sometimes I need to click on another chat tab and click back again. Still annoying though.
Bump on this. I am getting it every message though it then continues anyway. But as a Biz subscriber I am annoyed at the lack of a fix for so long.
If leave it alone it does eventually show the answer. However best workaround for me is using the phone app primarily, with Windows Phone Link app on desktop, which handles instant cutting pasting of code etc over to desktop IDE/terminal/gitbash and screenshots/error text from desktop back into phone chat instantly. Especially with longer chats, browsers on desktop keel over. Enable in Phone Link, Settings>Features>Cross Device Copy and Paste on the desktop.
This problem still exists.you either have to wait for him to reply completely, or you can only refresh the page.
I’m having the same problem too. The error pops up constantly and sometimes replaces whatever reply was being generated. Other times the whole chat freezes for 20–30 seconds or the response just disappears.
In my case it happens both in the Windows app and in the web version. It seems to get worse in long chats, or when I’m working with code, images, or big screenshots.
Refreshing, switching chats, or restarting the app sometimes helps, but the issue always comes back.
Would be great to know if a fix is on the way because it’s making day-to-day use pretty difficult.
Its so irritating keep coming very often
STILL an Issue. happens alot on the app.
Web does not help if a long conversation as the browser memory causes responses to take an age.
Im having to spent alot of time and effort creating new chats with a prompt generated from the previous chat to keep the work going
Has happened to me around 15 times today.
