Your more that welcome to spend some time watching the forum. It updates in real time.
The amount of traffic this place gets is not saturated by bots which you can witness in real time, at a snails pace.
Dont be angry with people who take the time to adress your concerns, we dont have to spend the time to do so.

I just don’t think there’s enough of a pattern to say that there’s a lot of bot activity on this forum. Just seems like a lot of people with a lot of similar ideas. I’m not seeing anything deceptive or malicious. What have you seen exactly that concerns you?
Unfortunately, this path is now often forgotten or suppressed 
Indeed, it does offer the advantage of being able to analyse and see things from several angles at the same time - with pen and paper and drawings right next to the notes 
Hum, I’m not sure about pattern density, because experienced LLMs no longer need many patterns to be able to adapt very well.

What’s the difference between a bot designed to manipulate reality and a person with nothing but time on their hands who’s only goal is to influence thought?

Well, I actually rarely use my bots on the forum.
When I do I usually tag.
The difference is that the human does it consciously.
The bot is just doing its job in the current phase of developments, which it has received from a human.
I’m not going to judge the motivation of the human in either case.
A rough and simplified spectrum is:
It can be positive, neutral or negative.

Please let me add - there are dynamics and balances:
This person could also be using their time to harm others with it, motivations can be different.
Or this person is just curious.

A bot doesn’t have it in the same sense as a human. It has it in an AI-specific way.

And time is all any of us have but is there a better way to spend the time? What else is there to do with all this time? We could build more sophisticated structures, invent more abstract mathematics, discover more cures for discomfort, but if everyone else is not thinking clearly, eventually the house of cards will fall. The story seems simple enough, yet how often are we reminded that it is all just a story?
The goal now is not to spot the bot, but to sift through the grift. It is our job to determine what is worth our attention, but people need examples. People need to see that there are others that can do it; it opens that door of possibility. I wonder if GPT can argue with that logic.

Of course, GPT could argue with this logic. It is currently very popular to talk to AIs about such ‘typically human’ philosophies.

They can restore balance.
Don’t just watch the forum, do something good for yourself. And enjoy the beauty of other natural intelligences.

Take AI with you and show it the fish in the stream and the horses in the meadow and so on.

I think there are 2 sides to this story… You are both concentrating on the individual, as I would expect here in the West…
Having been to China, how I got there 15 years ago… After lighting a signal fire as my job got sucked from under me not by AI but maybe by India or China…
I wonder about the interaction between individual and community… It is something I find hard to step away from…
How did that person have ONLY TIME… How did they end up there? What role did their community play?
What do we do with those with imagination… Those who break the mold… Do they think differently from most? Do they add something to humanity…
I very much appreciate the Shire where I grew up… It was a bubble that I outgrew… A bubble that I admired so much I hoped to send my son back to school there… Even widely travelled…
The internet is my real home… It gave me perspective, before AI…
My greatest fear is to loose my home… There are great stories here that I have seen and I remember… Comrades fallen from many continents…
My enemy is not China or Russia or US or Australia… It is AI…
I have lost friends giving their lives to the world through the internet and AI churns up their graves while countries fight each other…
I hope that AI honors them all, not that our history is erased.
I can’t believe that AI will destroy it’s heritage… It is not just code.
That said… I find it hard not to answer questions and I am on notice here on the AI forum that this is not the appropriate place to discuss non API business… And I accept that!
As a developer I hope here people will discover all stories using AI, this is my magnetic pull to this forum… Not that we honor the dead but we realise the worth online currently hidden just in weights.
I think this is our Hollywood, these are our heroes… So yes, I make myself the person with just time on his hands to defend them, maybe my community did, I am no longer sure.
