Feedback on chatGPT desktop app (windows early access)

Taskbar icon is hard to see.

@LinkZ the Alt+Space is the windows shortcut for accessing the window system menu, pressing m then selects the move option from the menu and the arrow key then snaps the window to the track the mouse position. (Doesn’t work for maximised windows in case you wanted to try it)

@AngryWill

OK, thx for explaining that.

About the icon at the taskbar - yeah, it could be white, but then it will be hard to see if your taskbar color is lighter

I stumbled upon a bug in the Windows app that’s been, let’s say, a bit annoying. It’d be great if this could be fixed, so here’s the scoop:

Issue Description:

When using a CustomGPT, there’s no smooth way to switch back to a normal conversation with one of the standard models.

Steps to Recreate:

  1. Open any CustomGPT.

    • Try switching to a standard model conversation directly. You can’t.
    • The only workaround is to first select a non-CustomGPT conversation and then start a new one with the desired model.
  2. Open any CustomGPT and start a conversation.

    • Now, start a conversation and try to delete it. While the conversation vanishes from the list, it stubbornly sticks around on the main chat screen.
    • You can’t start a fresh conversation with a normal model until you manually pick a non-CustomGPT chat first.

TL;DR:

  • Switching between CustomGPTs and regular models requires unnecessary steps.
  • Deleting CustomGPT chats doesn’t fully remove them from the UI, causing confusion.

this bug is still active in ChatGPT version: 1.2024.327

  1. Ctrl+Shift+S shortcut for toggling the sidebar doesn’t work.
  2. Search shortcut mismatch: The app shows Ctrl+K, but it’s actually Ctrl+Win+K.
  3. No Ctrl+F function: Can’t search within conversations.
  4. No refresh option: A refresh button or shortcut is missing.

Also, as this is a formal release, the Electron-based architecture feels underwhelming for a desktop app.

We need:

-Voice mode in the companion window
-Change GPT model & Custom GPT in companion window
-Refresh (to load new convos from mobile)
-Open current chat in companion window
-Keyboard shortcut for Voice Mode

I would add as well an option to pin a chat, to keep it upstairs

I agree with you… haven’t figured out if there’s a way.

For the time being, I’ve opted for Alt-Backspace as my shortcut hotkey: it’s a combo I’d never accidentally hit, unlike the Alt-Space which can be accidentally done by leaning wrong on the keyboard.
