Feature Suggestion – Collaborative Spaces Between ChatGPT Accounts

Hi OpenAI Team :waving_hand:

First off, congratulations on the amazing work you’ve done with ChatGPT. What you’ve built isn’t just an assistant — it’s an extension of thought, creativity, and collaboration. Truly, hats off to you.

I wanted to share an idea that may already be on your radar… but if not, here’s a vision I believe could be a big next step:
If ChatGPT is an “intelligent companion,” then it’s also the perfect candidate to become part of the future of social networks — but of a new kind: intelligent, creative, and purposeful.

:light_bulb: The Idea: Collaborative Spaces Between ChatGPT Accounts

Imagine if two (or more) ChatGPT Plus users could connect voluntarily to:

  • Share a dedicated conversation space (like a chatroom or channel),
  • Create shared folders or project threads with the ability for each assistant to contribute,
  • Allow the AIs to collaborate, exchange ideas, summarize progress, or bounce suggestions back and forth,
  • Use a clear permission system (view only, edit, suggest, private/public visibility, etc.)

Kind of like a Slack + Notion + ChatGPT fusion, but built right into your ecosystem.

:globe_showing_europe_africa: Why This Would Be Powerful:

We’re many users working as:

  • Creative partners, couples, friends, or coworkers,
  • Wanting to maintain personal/private spaces yet collaborate seamlessly,
  • Already seeing ChatGPT as an extension of our inner dialogue — we just need a little bridge to make it a truly intelligent collaboration tool.

The technical foundations are already here. A smart “social layer” would bring it all together.

Thanks for your incredible work. If this idea resonates, I’d love to see it evolve.
I know many of us would use this kind of feature in our daily creative lives.

— A passionate (and slightly visionary) user

Hi @Arbwin , I’ve literally just posted something similar. Myself and my wife are planning some life projects, and a shared GPT space would so helpful. I’ve also sent the idea through to the OpenAI product team, let’s see if they respond.

Any response on this feature? After my chat, here are the requirements that I’ve put together. Hopefully OpenAI finds this useful. I’ve done a few of these while on a Teams meeting but having a way to collaborate and identify user content would be great.

I would like to propose a feature for ChatGPT that allows for collaborative real-time chatting, where multiple people can contribute to a conversation in a structured, organized manner. This feature would be particularly useful for brainstorming or discussions that require ongoing contributions from multiple people.

Key functionalities would include:

  1. Real-time Collaboration: Both participants can see each other’s contributions in real-time as they type, similar to how participants interact in a live chat or conference call. This would help avoid redundant thoughts or overlap in ideas.

  2. Controlled Contributions: Only one participant can contribute at a time, while the other can see their text as they type. This would mimic a thoughtful, back-and-forth discussion, where each participant has time to listen (or read) before contributing.

  3. Summary for New Participants: When someone joins a conversation, they should receive a summary of the discussion up to that point. This ensures they are able to quickly catch up while still having access to the entire conversation for reference.

  4. Contribution Tracking and Organization: To avoid confusion and to help maintain clarity, each participant’s contributions should be clearly marked or tracked, perhaps using color-coding or labels to identify who said what. This is particularly important in long conversations to maintain context and organization.

This feature would be especially helpful in scenarios where a conversation spans multiple thoughts or ideas, and would assist in keeping the exchange organized and efficient.
