Feature Request: Trust-Tagged Answers to Reduce Blind Trust for Students

Hi team,

I want to suggest a product feature for ChatGPT that can improve safety and trust, especially for students and exam users.

Problem:
Many users, especially students in countries like India, treat AI answers as fully correct and often ignore disclaimers like “AI can make mistakes.” A small factual mistake can affect exam preparation, understanding, and confidence.

Suggested solution:
Add visible trust tags inside answers, such as:

:green_circle: Verified
:green_square: Stable Knowledge
:yellow_circle: Needs Verification
:orange_circle: Inference
:red_circle: Uncertain

How it can work:

  • show one overall trust tag at the top of the answer
  • optionally show sentence-level trust tags for important facts

Why this matters:

  • users read the answer, not the disclaimer
  • visual signals are easier to notice than warning text
  • this can reduce blind trust in high-stakes use cases like exams, legal basics, medical guidance, and current affairs

I also created a simple prototype/mockup for this concept.

This is not about reducing usefulness. It is about making reliability more visible to users. Example use case:
A student preparing for UPSC/JEE/NEET may trust a confident AI answer without verifying it. Trust tags can help them immediately understand whether a fact is verified or needs checking.

Thank you.

Hi @Chandan

This is an interesting idea.

Making reliability more visible with lightweight visual signals could help users better gauge when to trust or double-check an answer, especially in high-stakes contexts like exams. Since AI can make mistakes, relying entirely on it without verification can sometimes lead to errors.

It feels like a useful direction for improving how uncertainty is communicated. I’ll pass that along to the team as feedback.
