We need a trash folder so you can recover accidental chat deletes. It’s just too easy to delete a chat, and once it’s gone, it’s gone forever. Even if the deleted chat in the “trash” folder auto-deletes from trash in 2 or 5 days, it would still be a potential “life-saver” in terms of accidentally losing my precious chats.

I agree, I just discovered that I accidentally deleted a thread that I use all the time and the thread I thought I was deleting is still there 
Like you said, I don’t think it needs to stick around for long, 2-5 days is long enough to realize what you did and recover it.
