Hey OpenAI Team and fellow ChatGPT users,
I’d love to see a simple toggle in ChatGPT’s settings that allows users to choose whether pressing Enter sends a message or inserts a new line.
Right now, pressing Enter submits the message, and Shift + Enter is required for a new line. While this works, it’s not ideal for users who write structured responses, long prompts, or detailed messages. Having a setting like:
“Press Enter to Send: On/Off”
…would provide more control over typing, similar to how messaging and document apps handle this.
This would benefit all users by improving typing efficiency and workflow, whether you’re drafting complex prompts, coding, or simply formatting messages better.
