I’d like to suggest a feature that could improve conversation organization and continuity in ChatGPT.
When a user sends the first message in a new chat, ChatGPT could check whether the topic is similar to an existing conversation in their chat history.
If a related conversation is found, ChatGPT could show a prompt such as:
“It looks like you already have a conversation about this topic. Would you like to continue there?”
The user could then choose between:
-
Continue existing chat
-
Start a new chat anyway
If the user chooses to continue, the message they just wrote could be sent directly to the existing conversation.
For example, if I already have a chat called “Finance” and start a new conversation asking about how I should organize my credit card expenses, ChatGPT could recognize that the topic is related and offer to continue the “Finance” conversation instead.
I think this would help reduce duplicate conversations, keep chat history better organized, and preserve relevant context by keeping related discussions in the same conversation.
Importantly, I think this should always be a suggestion rather than an automatic redirect, so the user remains in control. It
