**Feature Request: Sub-Conversations in ChatGPT**

Feature Request: Sub-Conversations in ChatGPT

Context:
Currently, conversations in ChatGPT are linear, which works well for focused discussions. However, when users explore a broad topic with multiple branches, the interface can become overwhelming and less practical for future reference.

Proposal:
Introduce support for sub-conversations, organized as “tabs” or “collapsible sections” within a main conversation. This feature would allow users to:

  1. Better Organize Content: Break down the topic into sub-conversations by themes without losing the overall context.
  2. Enable Quick Navigation: Simplify finding specific information in complex conversations.
  3. Maintain Clarity: Prevent the main conversation from becoming too lengthy or cluttered, enhancing the user experience.

Potential Implementations:

  • Internal Tabs: Each sub-conversation appears as a separate tab or section.
  • Collapsible Sections: Allow users to expand or minimize sub-conversations under a larger topic.
  • Cross-Referencing Links: Sub-conversations can reference each other for better navigation.
  • Organized Exports: Enable exporting each sub-conversation separately or as part of a unified document.

Impact:
This functionality would benefit users who use ChatGPT for studying, planning complex projects, or documenting ideas, making the system more versatile and scalable for practical applications.

+1 on this. It would be great to have a folder to organize an idea and have sub-chats under it.

Yep folders are great, but imagine threads under a main chat. It’s more intuitive to have them as part of the chat instead of a folder.

Hence, I think what OP is referring to: having threads under a main chat to be in navigable tabs e.g like in the image. I’ll probably add this to neatflowai.com, especially since it already has folders. Good suggestion OP!
