Feature request: Silent memory updates

Could the dev team consider making memory updates silent? Right now, every time ChatGPT remembers something, it announces it to the user. This is unnatural in conversation—if I were talking to a real person, they wouldn’t pause mid-discussion to say, I’ll remember that Charles likes Progressive Rock or "User hates broccoli."

This disrupts the flow of conversation and makes users self-conscious about what’s being stored. If memory is limited, it also makes people second-guess what’s worth sharing. Would it be possible to either (1) make memory updates silent, or (2) give users the option to turn off those notifications?

Thanks for considering this!

They should give us more control over:

  • what is said “out loud” (in chat) ; and
  • when the “inside voice” (in “Thinking…”) is used.

You could then instruct your bot more accurately.
