I would like a simple way to save an individual ChatGPT conversation as a text file, such as TXT or Markdown, while preserving the full flow of the conversation.
Currently, if I want to keep a particular conversation, I have to manually copy and paste it into a text file. This is especially inconvenient on smartphones:
In a mobile browser, very long conversations can exceed clipboard limitations, making it difficult or impossible to copy the entire conversation in one go.
In the ChatGPT mobile app, there is no way to select the entire conversation at once.
What I would like is a simple option such as “Save conversation as text” in the conversation’s “…” menu.
Ideally, it could offer formats such as:
TXT
Markdown
The exported file should preserve the conversation in its original order, for example:
User:
…
ChatGPT:
…
User:
…
ChatGPT:
…
It would also be useful if the filename could be generated automatically from the date and conversation title, for example:
2026-09-19_Something-and-Nothing.md
Why this would be useful
For me, this is not just about saving information or answers.
I sometimes have long, casual conversations with ChatGPT where the flow of the conversation itself is what makes it interesting. A topic may lead to an unexpected tangent, which leads to another topic, and so on. If I later remember a keyword, I could simply ask ChatGPT about it again, but the conversation would not necessarily develop in the same way.
I currently save some of these conversations manually because I want to preserve that original flow. In fact, I have already accumulated 49 text files from these conversations.
A simple “Save this conversation” button would make this much easier.
I think this would be useful not only for casual conversations, but also for brainstorming, creative discussions, research, journaling, and any situation where the process of the conversation is as valuable as the final answer.
This would be different from a full account data export: I am specifically asking for a lightweight way to save just the current conversation, on demand.
