Feature Request: Allow Users to Assign Private Aliases to Pinned GPTs
I’d like the ability to assign a private alias to any GPT that I pin in the ChatGPT sidebar.
The alias would only be visible to me and would not change the GPT’s public name or branding.
This would improve both privacy and organization. For example, if I use a GPT with a name like “Spicy Writer,” I may not want that name visible when I’m using ChatGPT in my office, teaching a class, or sharing my screen. I’d rather label it something neutral like “Creative Writing.”
Other benefits include:
- Shortening long GPT names.
- Grouping GPTs by purpose.
- Making frequently used GPTs easier to identify at a glance.
- Reducing distraction or awkwardness when presenting or working in public.
A simple implementation could allow users to:
- Right-click or tap-and-hold a pinned GPT.
- Select Set Private Alias.
- Enter a custom name used only in their own sidebar.
- Restore the original name at any time.
This would provide a simple privacy and usability improvement without affecting GPT creators or the GPT Store.
