Feature Request: Publish individual ChatGPT conversations as Android Direct Share targets

Edit: let chatgpt rewrite it for clarity:

I’d like the ChatGPT Android app to support publishing selected individual conversations as Android Direct Share / Sharing Shortcut targets.

Use case: I have a persistent ChatGPT conversation called “Receipt Reminder” where I send photos of receipts. Ideally, after taking a picture in the Android Camera app, I could tap Share and see something like:

ChatGPT — Receipt Reminder

alongside the individual Messenger conversations and other Direct Share targets Android already displays.

Selecting it would open that existing ChatGPT conversation with the shared image/file attached and ready for me to send.

A possible implementation would be an option on individual conversations such as:

Show in Android Share sheet

Users could enable this only for conversations they frequently send content to, preventing the Share sheet from becoming cluttered.

This would be useful for many persistent workflows beyond receipts, for example:

  • Expense/receipt tracking
  • Research or project-specific chats
  • Travel planning
  • Home improvement projects
  • Recipes
  • Work/project documentation
  • Sending screenshots to a troubleshooting chat

What currently works

The pieces seem to exist individually:

  1. A specific existing ChatGPT conversation can be opened on Android using its https://chatgpt.com/c/<conversation-id> deep link. Android correctly routes that link into the ChatGPT app.
  2. ChatGPT Android accepts images/files through Android ACTION_SEND.
  3. However, an incoming share opens ChatGPT’s generic/new image-intake composer rather than allowing the attachment to be routed to a particular existing conversation.

I tested this further using Android automation:

  • Open the target conversation via its /c/ deep link, then issue ACTION_SEND with the image → ChatGPT switches away from the existing conversation into the generic image-intake UI.
  • Send a single intent to com.openai.chatgpt.MainActivity containing both the existing conversation URL and android.intent.extra.STREAM image URI → the intent succeeds and ChatGPT receives the image, but the conversation URL is not honored as the attachment destination.
  • Navigating from the generic image-intake screen to the desired existing conversation causes the staged attachment to be lost.

So there doesn’t currently appear to be a clean Android-side workaround. The ChatGPT app needs a way to associate an incoming shared item with a specific existing conversation.

Requested behavior

Ideally ChatGPT Android would implement Android’s Sharing Shortcuts / Direct Share API and allow selected conversations to be published as share targets.

The resulting workflow would be:

Camera → Take photo → Share → ChatGPT — Receipt Reminder → Send

instead of:

Open ChatGPT conversation → Attach → Camera → Take photo → Send

Both involve roughly the same number of actions, but the Direct Share workflow fits Android’s normal content-first workflow much better: when I’m already looking at a photo, PDF, webpage, screenshot, or other content, I can simply share it to the appropriate ChatGPT conversation.

Even if publishing individual conversations directly into Android’s Share sheet isn’t feasible, a conversation chooser after selecting ChatGPT from the Share sheet would be a significant improvement. For example:

Share → ChatGPT → Choose existing conversation / New chat

rather than automatically starting a new image-intake context.

Thanks for considering it.

Trying to use dot in the Android app is extremely frustrating. The app is responsible for too much functionality to not have a multiple State control and navigation.
