Hello OpenAI Team,
I’ve been using ChatGPT for a variety of purposes and have identified a potential feature that could greatly enhance the user experience, especially for longer and more complex interactions.
Feature Overview: I propose the addition of a “Protected Memory Area” within each ChatGPT session. This would be a designated space where users can store a limited amount of information (e.g., around 2000 tokens) that remains persistent throughout the session, unaffected by the token limit of the main chat window.
Benefits:
- Long-Term Context: For extended interactions, like interactive stories or writing projects, users could maintain critical details without worrying about the model’s memory constraints.
- User-Centric Memory Management: Users can decide which pieces of information are essential and should be kept in the protected area, thus tailoring the model’s memory to their specific needs.
Use Cases:
- In interactive role-playing or storytelling sessions, key decisions or plot points could be stored to ensure continuity.
- For collaborative writing projects, the main story outline, critical details, or a summary of prior events and preferred writing style can be preserved.
Web Interface Enhancement:
It would be ideal if this feature could be integrated directly into the ChatGPT web interface. This would allow users to easily write, edit, and delete messages within the protected memory area, providing a more intuitive and seamless experience.
While I understand that every feature request comes with technical challenges and priorities to consider, I believe that this would be a valuable addition for many users. I also imagine that this could open up new use cases and further establish ChatGPT as a versatile tool.
Thank you for considering my suggestion. I appreciate all the hard work that goes into improving and evolving ChatGPT!
Best regards,
Martin
