Feature Request: Proper Way to Organise Chats (Folders or Similar System)

Hi everyone,

I’m a daily ChatGPT user and I work across multiple long-term projects. Over time, the chat sidebar becomes impossible to manage. There’s no way to group related conversations together, and scrolling through a long mixed list of chats slows everything down.

Projects are useful, but they don’t solve this specific problem. They’re great for files, documents and code, but chats still live separately and can’t be moved or grouped in any organised way. For people who use ChatGPT as part of their professional workflow, this becomes a real limitation.

What’s needed is a simple way to organise chats into folders, or anything equivalent that lets us group related conversations. For example: one folder for a business project, another for research, another for creative work, and so on. Even basic drag-and-drop folders or categories would make a massive difference.

This isn’t about cosmetic tidying, it’s about being able to continue long-term work without losing track of which conversation contains what. ChatGPT is becoming a core work tool for a lot of people, and the chat history needs a way to scale with that.

A straightforward folder or grouping system in the sidebar would solve the problem perfectly.

Thanks for considering it.

Thanks for raising this!

One additional friction point I’ve noticed is that moving a conversation from one project to another currently forces the UI to jump into the destination project.

When triaging a large number of chats, that context switch slows down the workflow considerably.

It would be great if we could reassign a chat to another project one by one without leaving the current project view. Even better, a way to select multiple conversations and bulk‑reassign them in a single action would help keep things organized without repeating the process for each chat.

Thanks for considering these improvements.
