I’d like to suggest a feature that could move ChatGPT closer to being a true personal AI assistant.
With the user’s explicit permission, ChatGPT could proactively “call” the user inside the app at a pre-agreed time, similar to an incoming call.
But it wouldn’t just be a voice reminder. The main advantage would be that the AI knows the context of the original conversation and understands why the user wanted to be contacted.
For example, I could say:
“Call me tomorrow evening and help me finally finish and submit that important application. I’ve already postponed it several times, and the deadline is Friday.”
The next day, ChatGPT calls me and I say:
“I don’t feel like doing it today. Call me again in two days.”
Because it remembers the earlier context, ChatGPT could reply:
“I can do that, but if you postpone it for another two days, you’ll only have one evening left before the deadline. That’s exactly why you asked me to call you. Do you want to spend 20 minutes on it now, or should I call you tomorrow evening?”
The important part is that the user would have full control over when the AI is allowed to call and how “intrusive” it is allowed to be. Ordinary things could remain normal notifications, while more important tasks could trigger a stronger alert or call.
The goal is not to create a louder reminder, but an assistant that remembers why you asked it to contact you and can actually have a meaningful conversation with you at that moment.
What do you think? Would you use something like this?
