Feature Request: Navigator workflow for Memory, History, Archive, Projects, Storage, and Export

Title: Feature Request: Navigator workflow for Memory, History, Archive, Projects, Storage, and Export

I would like to suggest a future improvement for ChatGPT Pro: a stronger user-controlled workflow layer for managing Memory, chat history, archived chats, Projects, storage, and exported data together.

For users doing long-term work, ChatGPT becomes more than a chat tool. It becomes a knowledge workflow system. Right now, Memory, history, archive, Projects, storage, and export are all useful, but they still feel separated.

A Navigator-style workflow could help users review and manage:

  1. What should stay in Memory.

  2. What should remain in chat history.

  3. What should move into archive.

  4. What should be organized into Projects.

  5. What should be exported as a backup.

  6. What should be deleted or cleaned up.

  7. What old information should be flagged for verification before being reused.

This would be valuable for people doing policy, legal, regulatory, accessibility, research, education, technical, nonprofit, or public-interest work.

The key principle should be user control. ChatGPT should not automatically move, delete, or change important information without approval. Instead, it could suggest organization, flag outdated information, identify duplicate or stale files, and help create a clean archive plan.

Suggested features:

  1. Memory review dashboard: show what ChatGPT remembers, why it may matter, and whether it should be kept, edited, or removed.

  2. Archive assistant: suggest which chats should be archived by topic, date, project, or importance.

  3. Project organizer: recommend moving related chats and files into a Project.

  4. Verification flag: mark old facts, deadlines, legal references, regulatory decisions, and source links that may need current verification before use.

  5. Export planner: help users create a clean backup plan for important work.

  6. Storage cleanup assistant: show which uploaded files are large, old, duplicated, or no longer useful.

  7. Accessibility Lens: support users who rely on clear visual organization, structured information, plain language, captions, signed-language access, and evidence-based workflows.

The goal is simple: ChatGPT Pro could become a trusted, user-controlled knowledge workflow system, not only a conversation history system.

Hi @macjbby, welcome to the forum.

I agree that would be a valuable addition, especially for Pro users. I’ll make sure the feedback is surfaced to the engineering team so they can evaluate whether it’s something worth implementing.

Thank you, Avinash. I appreciate you surfacing this to the engineering team.

For me, the key point is user trust and control. ChatGPT Pro is becoming a long-term working knowledge space for many users, not only a chat history list. A unified Navigator Dashboard would help users clearly manage Memory, History, Archives, Projects, Library files, and Exports without confusion.

I appreciate your support.
