Feature Request: Native ChatGPT Companion for Apple Watch / watchos

I’d love to see a native ChatGPT companion app for Apple Watch / watchOS.

The key idea, in my view, is that it should not simply be a Voice Mode app for the wrist. Voice would be one of its strongest interaction methods, especially for input, but it should preserve the broader ChatGPT experience — including text responses, conversation continuity, and access to more capable reasoning.

A particularly useful interaction pattern would be:

Speak the question, read the answer.

Apple Watch is naturally well suited to voice input: raising your wrist and asking a question is much faster than taking out a phone and typing. But spoken output is not always desirable. In public places, meetings, classrooms, transit, or other everyday situations, users may strongly prefer to read a concise answer on the watch rather than have ChatGPT speak aloud.

More importantly, Voice Mode should not be the only way to use ChatGPT on Apple Watch. Many users find the text-based ChatGPT experience more useful for complex questions because it provides greater information density, structure, precision, and control. A watchOS app should therefore preserve access to that experience rather than reducing ChatGPT to a voice assistant.

An ideal watchOS implementation could include:

  • Voice input / dictation for quickly asking ChatGPT questions.
  • Text-first responses, optimized into concise, readable cards that can be expanded by scrolling.
  • Optional Voice Mode, especially for hands-free situations.
  • Conversation continuity, allowing users to open and continue recent ChatGPT conversations instead of creating isolated watch-only sessions.
  • Handoff to iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Web when an answer becomes too long or complex for the watch.
  • Complications and Smart Stack widgets for actions such as “Ask ChatGPT,” “Continue last conversation,” or frequently used prompts.
  • Notifications from Tasks and automations, where the watch can show the important conclusion first and let the user open the full result elsewhere.
  • Optional integration with Apple Health, where appropriate and explicitly authorized by the user.
  • Siri / Apple Intelligence handoff, while still allowing direct access to ChatGPT rather than requiring Siri as an intermediary.

The broader product principle could be:

Apple Watch handles capture, queries, quick reading, and lightweight interaction; iPhone and Mac handle depth.

The goal should not be to shrink the entire iPhone ChatGPT interface onto a 45 mm screen. Instead, ChatGPT for Apple Watch could be designed as a true cross-device companion: extremely fast to invoke, context-aware, useful for short interactions, but still connected to the full ChatGPT experience.

Voice could be a major selling point, but it should be an interaction modality — not the entire product.

Thanks for sharing the watchOS idea! Quick wrist conversations, short answers and a phone handoff are clear use cases. We don’t have a timeline to share for a native watch app. We’ll pass this feedback to the relevant product team.
