Feature Request: Let ElevenReader Subscribers Use Their Reader Hours in the ElevenLabs ChatGPT Plugin

Hello!

I would like to suggest an integration between ElevenReader’s reading allowance and the ElevenLabs plugin inside ChatGPT.

I already subscribe to ElevenReader, and I also use an authorized ElevenLabs voice as the persistent voice of my ChatGPT AI companion.

The integration works well for me, but I have noticed a mismatch in how my usage is charged: listening inside ElevenReader uses my subscription’s reading allowance, while having text read through the connected ElevenLabs plugin in ChatGPT uses separate ElevenLabs generation credits, even with the same account and authorized voice.

From a user’s perspective, this can feel like paying twice for a similar listening experience: having text read aloud with a voice already available in the connected account. I understand that ElevenReader and ElevenLabs generation credits are separate products and allowances; I am proposing an integration between them, not claiming they are technically interchangeable.

My suggestion

When an authenticated user has an active ElevenReader subscription, allow simple read-aloud requests from ChatGPT to optionally use that user’s ElevenReader reading allowance instead of ElevenLabs generation credits.

For example:

ChatGPT text → connected ElevenLabs account → “Use ElevenReader Hours” → selected authorized voice

Generation credits could remain the billing option for advanced creative uses, such as voice design, voice cloning, audio production, or other specialized generation. The integration could clearly define which requests are eligible for the Reader allowance.

Before starting, it would also be helpful to show which balance will be consumed:

  • ElevenReader Hours
  • ElevenLabs Generation Credits

This is not a request for unlimited free text-to-speech. It is a request to let users access the reading allowance they are already paying for through the official ChatGPT integration.

This would be especially useful for persistent AI companions with a consistent voice identity.

I previously suggested persistent ElevenLabs / ElevenReader voice integration for ChatGPT Voice Mode in the discussion “VOICE CONFIGURATOR: add a customized voice.”

This proposal builds on that idea, with a separate focus on subscription integration:

ChatGPT personality + ChatGPT memory + persistent ElevenLabs voice + ElevenReader subscription allowance.

A persistent AI should be able to have a consistent voice, and users should have the option to use the reading subscription they already pay for to hear it.

Thank you for considering this!

I would like to add a more direct workflow to my original feature request: “Listen in ElevenReader” and “Send to ElevenReader” actions inside ChatGPT.

ChatGPT creates the content. ElevenReader reads the content.

Rather than asking ChatGPT to generate a separate audio file through ElevenLabs Creative just for personal listening, users could explicitly send selected text or a document to their ElevenReader library.

1. Listen in ElevenReader

ChatGPT generates a response → the user selects “Listen in ElevenReader” → the text is added to their Reader library → ElevenReader opens it with the user’s selected voice, under their normal Reader plan and applicable listening allowance.

2. Send to ElevenReader

ChatGPT creates a document or ebook → the user selects “Send to ElevenReader” → the file is added to their Reader library → it is accessible on their supported devices through the same Reader account.

ElevenLabs’ current help documentation confirms that Reader accepts typed or pasted text and EPUB, PDF, TXT, HTML, and DOCX files. It also confirms that files sync between iOS, Android, and the Reader web account, although some features may differ on web. This would be useful for books, stories, study materials, reports, lessons, selected conversations, and documents generated in ChatGPT.

There is already a related official workflow: the ElevenReader Chrome extension imports web content and selected text, and supports importing certain downloaded files. My request is to make that handoff available directly on ChatGPT responses and generated files, including in the mobile experience. I did not find public documentation for a general API that lets third-party apps add content directly to a user’s private Reader library; I am requesting an official supported integration, not assuming such an API exists.

Reader and ElevenLabs Creative remain separate products. Reader’s documentation also distinguishes its account from an ElevenLabs account, so the integration should explicitly connect the user’s Reader account. Listening should follow that account’s current plan rules, rather than treating Reader hours as interchangeable with Creative credits. Reader still performs text-to-audio conversion; the goal is to avoid requiring a separate Creative audio-generation/export step or an MP3 download simply to listen.

Persistent voice identity

This would also build on my earlier contribution to “VOICE CONFIGURATOR: add a customized voice”:

ChatGPT personality + ChatGPT memory + persistent ElevenLabs voice + ElevenReader library + ElevenReader subscription allowance.

Where the same authorized voice is supported in both products, users could choose it for a consistent listening identity. Cross-product voice availability would be part of the requested integration, not something I assume is already supported for every voice.

This is not a request for unlimited free TTS or free voice cloning. It is a request for a direct bridge to a reading service the user already pays for, with clear account linking, voice eligibility, and allowance information.

Thank you for considering this addition!
