Feature Request: Let Deleted Chat Sections Free Active Conversation Space

When a ChatGPT conversation becomes very long, users can eventually reach its practical conversation/context limit and need to start a new chat.

I would like an option to remove selected messages or sections from an existing conversation and have that removed content stop counting toward the conversation’s active context/length.

This is an important distinction from simply hiding or visually deleting messages. The goal would be to actually reclaim usable conversation space so the remaining chat can continue longer.

Possible options could include:

• Delete selected section and remove it from active context
• Remove a topic from the conversation while keeping everything else
• Archive a section outside the active conversation
• Move a selected section into a new chat
• Show a confirmation warning before permanent deletion

This would be especially useful for long-running troubleshooting, research, support, and project chats where some older material becomes obsolete while the rest of the conversation remains valuable.

There is already a related locked request about deleting or splitting sections of long chats. I am posting this separately to emphasize the context/length reclamation aspect: removing content should genuinely free conversation capacity, rather than only changing what is displayed.
