# Feature request: In-app preview for Markdown files in Codex/ChatGPT app

I would like Codex/ChatGPT app to provide a rendered preview for Markdown files directly inside the app.

This request is not about Markdown rendering in chat messages, which already works. It is about previewing a `.md` file created or edited by Codex—ideally in a side panel or split view.

The preview should render standard Markdown, images, and LaTeX formulas, and update when the file changes.

At the moment, I need to open the file in VS Code or another Markdown viewer just to check the final result. An in-app side preview would make writing documentation, technical notes, and reports much more convenient.

Is this feature already planned or under consideration?

I second this request, it would be so useful. All I do currently is preview this on Obsidian or RStudio

The desktop app already has rich Markdown-file previews in its sidebar, plus editing and annotations: https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/changelog. If you’re not seeing it, the app version and file-opening steps would help narrow that down. The exact LaTeX and live-refresh behavior still needs checking.
