Today, users can only choose between sharing all eligible conversations for model improvement or sharing none.
I would like to suggest a more granular privacy model that allows users to explicitly choose what they want to contribute.
For example, users could choose to share:
A single conversation.
An entire Project.
Selected messages from a conversation.
Or keep everything else private.
This would be especially valuable for users who rely on ChatGPT for both professional and personal purposes.
Many of us have conversations containing technical knowledge, programming, scientific research, educational content, or even long-term observations about topics such as health. We would be happy to contribute these conversations to improve future models, while keeping unrelated personal or confidential conversations private.
This feature would provide several benefits:
Give users much greater control over their data.
Increase trust and transparency.
Encourage more people to voluntarily contribute high-quality conversations.
Allow users to intentionally donate valuable knowledge without exposing unrelated private information.
Instead of the current “all or nothing” approach, users could decide exactly which knowledge they want to contribute to model improvement.
As a long-time ChatGPT Plus user, I would gladly share many of my technical projects, research, and well-documented conversations if I could choose them individually. I believe many other users would feel the same.
