I am glad you guys FINALLY brought in folders but…I really really wish that when you implemented folders (projects) you allowed for nested folders for proper organization. Folders inside folders are one of the most common way to organize things electronically and would make chatGPT much more functional. Take a look at Notion and how you can nest a page in a page in a page. This is what we need in ChatGPT.
Both! Sometimes you might want to pull one out to work on a specific project for a week or two and then when it’s done tuck it back in it’s easily findable folder for next time; the pin feature really is a separately needed feature. I see that as easy daily use access whereas folder is critical for locating important chats for use later.
I’m so frustrated I can’t even wrap my mind around it–all this time we’ve waited and it’s utterly useless. Nearly every single chat I have uses a GPT…
But guess what, guys? GPT chats, whether your own or from the GPT store, don’t have the option to ‘Add to Project’ when you click next to their name to add it. COOL. So disappointing. How hard was it to get this right? They’ve had YEARS. 3rd party chrome extension builders were able to do it several months after ChatGPT came out, and yet OpenAI takes 3 years to provide this critical, oh-so-basic feature, and when they finally do, it’s absolute garbage and unusable for users that leverage the platform dynamically.
I can simply grab the chat and pull it in to the project or out from the project.
I’d also like to be able to move chats with GPTs from the GPT store into projects.
Completely agree. I was so excited to see some sort of organization structure, I would even love the evolution of it to be a tile dashboard that is customizable. Like favorites, projects, recents, etc… in tiles.
But I was SUPER BUMMED when this feature was added, yet not applicable to GPTs. Like why???
For workaround, I add my own GPTs’ instructions text based file to Project Folder and use them:
I just wrote about this +1.
Check out Cleanest AI it’s a Chrome Extension.
Thy have introduced one feature called “Projects” where you can organise all chats accordingly, but it’s paid.
Something basic like Folders, after cool renaming, are introduced to us like a premium feature.
OpenAI please introduce proper folder feature for every customer (premium or free doesn’t matter)
I was about to mention Projects myself. It looks like this does fulfil some of the folders functionality. However you need to pay $20 p/m to use it. This makes me think it’s less likely they’ll add folders functionality for free users. As they want to motivate users to pay.
Signed up to +1 this. I was excited for the Projects, but was totally disappointed after using it for a bit. No sub-folders. No custom GPTs. No automations. When can we have folders and subfolders like how Superpower ChatGPT has it? They even let you automatically create folders for Custom GPTs conversations!
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing.
+1 we definitely need this! Please make it happen.
+100 we need native support for that!

I’ve tried utilizing “Projects” for my folder solution since a lot of my similar chats run off the same main prompts. However, I totally agree there needs to be a folder option natively!
Problem with Projects is nothing can be moved to a project that’s used a GPT.
Highly irritating.
The problem with this extension is that you still see the conversation in the sidebar even after you have moved them to a folder. This creates a lot of confusion instead of cleaning the flow.
+1 I tried all the possible Chrome extensions, but they are not really good. We definitely need something integrated with the website and mobile apps, where we can have different kinds of conversations (like GPTs). This process will also simplify the way we can delete conversations (e.g., adding a feature to remove conversations that are not in folders…).
With OpenAI acknowledging that it needs to make the UX better, specifically for the selection of which AI model to use, they also need to add this long-overdue feature. The addition of Projects was nice, but it falls flat because it limits everything to GPT4.
And the addition of folders is not an AI-affecting change, it is just a cosmetic and organizational change. And it will probably reduce the request load on the AI, as it will be much easier for users to find their existing conversations, rather than repeating them.
I have also used most or all of the 3rd party extensions, but most of them break with every update to chatGPT, and they take a very long time to sync between computers, and many attempt to add extra features that interfere with normal functionality - especially when there is a chatGPT update. And, some of those extensions have a monthly price that is as high as chatGPT’s price.
At the very least, OpenAI should add folders for Plus and Pro users.
