Feature Request: Enable Selective Email Thread Analysis for Enhanced Privacy and Productivity

Hi OpenAI team and community,

I’d like to propose a new feature that could greatly enhance productivity and user experience for ChatGPT users:

Selective Email Conversation Analysis

The Concept

Instead of giving ChatGPT access to an entire email inbox (which raises privacy and security concerns), users would have the option to select a specific email thread they want the AI to analyze. This ensures confidentiality while giving the user the full power of AI-driven insights and response generation.

How It Would Work

  1. User Flow: The user selects an email conversation (or thread) in Gmail, Outlook, or any other email client.
  2. Limited Access: Instead of granting full access to the inbox, the AI only receives the content of the selected conversation.
  3. Response Generation: ChatGPT reads the thread, understands the context, and provides a draft response, suggestions, or summaries while maintaining data privacy.

Why This Matters

  • Privacy First: Users keep control of what the AI sees. No full access to the inbox.
  • Efficiency: No need to copy and paste emails manually.
  • User Trust: People feel safer knowing that only the selected conversation is shared.

Possible Use Cases

  • Customer Support Teams: Faster response generation for ongoing customer inquiries.
  • Sales Teams: Drafting personalized follow-ups for leads and prospects.
  • Legal & Admin: Reviewing email threads and suggesting responses efficiently.

Implementation Ideas

  • API-based approach: Leverage Gmail/Outlook API to allow selective access to a single thread.
  • Privacy control: Users explicitly authorize which conversation to share, with limited access.
  • GDPR/Privacy compliance: Ensures data privacy by processing only one email thread at a time.

This feature would make ChatGPT much more practical for business use and everyday productivity. It balances privacy, security, and AI-driven efficiency perfectly.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this idea. If you feel this would be useful, feel free to support it with a like or comment!

Thanks for your time and consideration!

Best,
Zakaria

Hey Zakaria, and welcome to the forums. :hugs:

What an amazing concept!

You could probably code this yourself using the OpenAI API.
Alternatively, the old-fashioned way of CTRL+C and CTRL+V still exists, achieving the same goal. :cowboy_hat_face:

Cheers. :innocent:
