Feature Request: Conversation timestamps added to the Chatgpt macOS app

Feature Request: Timestamps in ChatGPT macOS App

Subject: Request for Timestamps in ChatGPT macOS App

Hello OpenAI Team,

I’d love to suggest a timestamp feature for the ChatGPT macOS app, similar to how iMessage displays timestamps on messages. This would be incredibly helpful for:

:white_check_mark: Tracking when responses were given in long conversations.

:white_check_mark: Project-based chats, where time-sensitive details matter.

:white_check_mark: Improved organization & recall, especially for users working across multiple sessions.

A few possible implementations:

Hover to reveal timestamps (like iMessage).

Option to toggle timestamps on/off for all messages.

Timestamps on message groups instead of every single response (for better readability).

This feature would enhance usability, especially for those using ChatGPT for work, project management, or tracking research over time.

Thank you for considering this request! :tada: Looking forward to future updates!

Best,

UknownQua

I support this. If things are timestamped and both the user and ChatGPT can access this (and ChatGPT can access/understand durations between them) this would fix so many issues.

Like if I talk about something and say it needs revisiting in two days, right now it’s not able to understand that duration.

+1 . I have instructed ChatGPT to search for current time (time. gov, etc.) and update it with the day, datestamp, timestamp before proceeding to respond (as follows: Thursday, 08:23, May 1, ChatGPT: ). I have enough chat threads ongoing that sometimes require precise timetracking to keep straight or be accurate to what I’m doing. This is never the case. I have to ask it and it still doesn’t do it. It explained that OpenAI restricts its access backend to current time tracking, which seems stupid. Please give it an internal clock of sometime that is accurate to time. gov or similar.
