There are already requests for a “Save Insight” or bookmarking feature in ChatGPT. I’d like to suggest a related but slightly different idea:
Sometimes the insight isn’t inside a single message. It emerges from the conversation itself.
I often use ChatGPT not just to get answers, but to think through a topic.
I start with an assumption. ChatGPT responds. I disagree with part of it. We refine the idea, challenge assumptions, change the framing, and after 20–30 messages we sometimes arrive at a sentence, hypothesis, or concept that didn’t really exist at the beginning of the conversation.
That is often the most valuable part of the entire chat.
But today, that insight gets buried inside a long conversation history.
A bookmark works when there is one specific sentence worth saving. But ChatGPT could go one step further.
For example:
Select text → Save as Insight
But also:
“Save what we just discovered as an insight.”
ChatGPT could then create an insight card with:
- a concise version of the idea,
- the relevant conversation context,
- a link back to where it emerged,
- optional tags or Project association,
- and related insights from previous conversations.
The important distinction is that an insight might come from something the user said, something ChatGPT said, or a synthesis that emerged across several messages.
So the goal isn’t only:
“Save something ChatGPT told me.”
It’s:
“Preserve something that emerged while I was thinking with ChatGPT.”
Over time, these could form an Insight Library: a user-curated collection of ideas, hypotheses, decisions, and discoveries that emerged across conversations.
Chat history helps us remember what we talked about.
An Insight Library could help us remember what those conversations actually taught us.
